Q: What is the cost of living in your area?
A: Your dollar will go a long way here! According to a recent survey by the American Chamber of Commerce Research Association, the cost of living in Tennessee is 17% less than the national average. Tennessee has no personal state income tax, very low insurance rates, low utility bills and low construction costs. There are no personal property taxes and county property taxes are approximately $550 per $100,000 of value. A recent comparison between Fort Lauderdale and Cookeville, TN resulted in 17% less for groceries, 55% less for home prices and 23% less for utilities.

Q: What is nearby for major shopping?
A: There is a Super Walmart right in Sparta on Hwy. 111. Nearby Chattanooga features Hamilton Place, Tennessee’s largest shopping mall. Hamilton Place is home to over 200 fabulous stores including Dillard’s, J.C. Penney, Parisian, Proffitt’s for Women, Proffitt’s For Men, Kids & Home and Sears. Add to that 30 delicious eateries and 17 theaters and Hamilton Place is a complete shopping experience. Q: Can you tell us about State and National Parks?
A: On a state level, Tennessee has 54 state parks. Just 15 minutes from The River Club is Fall Creek Falls State Park, boasting the largest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. The park features miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails, an abundance of wildlife and lush vegetation, an outstanding lakeside resort hotel and a dining facility. The park’s golf course was rated by Golf Digest Magazine as one of the “100 Best Public Places to Play.” National parks and landmarks in Tennessee include Smoky Mountain National Park, which encompasses 800 square miles along the Tennessee and North Carolina state lines. Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville is a U.S. National Landmark with some of the largest cave rooms in eastern America. The Lost Sea in Sweetwater is a U.S. Natural Landmark and is the largest underground lake in America.

Q: Is it true that deer are seen quite frequently in your part of Tennessee?
A: Yes! Many of your new “friends” and “neighbors” at The River Club will have paws or hoofs, fur or feathers and some of the brightest and sharpest eyes you could ever hope to see. It really doesn’t take very long to become extremely attached to and very protective of your new friends and neighbors. Our hardwood forests are also home to red and gray fox, raccoon, squirrel, coyote and wild turkey.

Q: Can you tell us a little about hunting and fishing in Tennessee?
A: Hunting is a Tennessee tradition that for generations has attracted both residents and visitors to the state’s woods and waters. Tennessee abounds with excellent small game populations including rabbit, squirrel, and quail. Waterfowl include Canadian geese, duck and wild turkey. The whitetail deer is Tennessee’s number one game animal. Outstanding nearby fishing areas include Center Hill Lake, Fall Creek Falls State Park, Dale Hollow Lake, as well as the Collins, Rocky and Caney Fork Rivers, to name just a few. You’ll enjoy the challenge of catching “the big one” whether it’s large mouth bass, blue gill, channel catfish, or rainbow trout.

Q: Is there quality healthcare in the area? What about hospitals?

A: Healthcare in the area is anchored by the Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. This private non-profit regional facility has 202 medical/surgical beds and a 20 bed sub-acute care unit. The hospital features an emergency department with 24 hour physician coverage, expanded same day surgery unit, comprehensive outpatient services, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation and home health services. This facility has ranked in the Top 100 Hospitals in America. Nearby White County Community Hospital in Sparta is a 60 bed medical facility with emergency care. River Park Hospital in McMinnville is a 127 bed hospital offering full healthcare services. Additionally, Cookeville Regional Medical Center is a 227 bed health care facility with over 100 physicians and the Department of Veterans Affairs provides services in Chattanooga and Nashville, as well as an outpatient clinic in Cookeville. Regional EMS Alliance operates its Life Force 2 air medical transportation unit out of Sparta.

Q: What are some of the fun things to do in Tennessee?
A: There are hundreds of great places to visit. Let’s start with Nashville where you can visit The Country Music Hall of Fame, The General Jackson Showboat and Opryland. In Memphis, there’s Graceland (former home of Elvis Presley), the Mississippi River Museum and Beale Street, famous for the blues. In Chattanooga you can see Raccoon Mountain Caverns, Ruby Falls at Lookout Mountain with its famous Incline Railway and, of course, the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Knoxville is home to a great historic district and an impressive zoo. Southeastern Tennessee offers Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Dollywood for a variety of family entertainment.
